Section XI (Suffolk County) Friday postponed all interscholastic sports until 2021.

That includes boys and girls soccer.

There will be no sports until Jan. 4.

Section XI made the decision in conjunction with its Athletic Council, athletic directors, safety committee and Suffolk County executive board.

Originally, Suffolk County was ready to follow Gov. Cuomo’s guidelines, starting training for the fall season Sept. 21. The season would have run through the end of November.

Now the soccer season will run from March 1 to May 1.

Nassau County (Section VIII) decided last month to postpone the fall seasons.

Officials said the potential for increased positive cases of COVID-19 and the health and safety of the athletes, coaches, fame officials and staff members were among the reasons for the postponement. Also in the mix were the lack of locker room and facility use, increased transportation costs and a reduced number of spectators allowed at events.

So, the fall, winter and spring seasons will be condensed and will run from January through June.

“While this was a difficult decision, we feel it was the best move for the health and safety of everyone involved,” Section XI executive director Tom Combs said in a statement. “We still have a lot of hard work ahead in planning and executing on the three seasons across six months in 2021, but we look forward to the challenge and collaboration with our member schools and providing an impactful experience for our student-athletes and coaches.”

Here is what the 2021 Suffolk County sports calendar looks like:

Season 1 (Winter), January 4- February 27
