As it has the past several decades, the Long Island Soccer Football League hopes to hold an indoor tournament this winter.

Given the COVID-19 pandemic and how fluid everything is these days, it cannot give a definite answer or a plan.

That’s certainly understandable.

The Joe Goldberg Memorial Indoor Tournament in Uniondale, N.Y. usually is held during President’s Week in February.

The league hopes to do the same in 2021, depending on what the conditions are on Long Island and in New York.

February might be five months away, but the LISFL is planning ahead.

“This board has spoken about the indoor tournament,” said LISFL president Rocco Avallone, who assumed the position after his election Thursday. “We’re hoping that a vaccine will be found developed before the end of the year or early 2021. Either way, though, we are contemplating on either doing a tournament given a vaccine being found or doing now something.

“We’re talking about is a futsal league within the league. So those are options we currently talked about.

“We’re contemplating doing one of those things. We don’t know what it is and it’s all going to depend on the situation we are in, in the state in regard to the pandemic. So, it’s either going to be a tournament or an indoor league to get teams ready for the outdoor season.”
