The Cosmos announced Tuesday the signing of defender Armando Guarnera and goalkeeper Gianfranco Barone for the National Independent Soccer Association fall season.
Both signings are subject to U.S. Soccer Federation and NISA approval.
Guarnera, 22, returns to the club for his fourth season after first joining Cosmos B in 2017. A strong presence in central defense, Guarnera spent time in the youth systems of Serie B Avellino Primavera Italy and Chesterfield FC in England.
“It feels so good to be back for my fourth season,” Guarnera said. “It’s always a great feeling to be a part of such a great group of players and coaches. I’m ready to get to work, and excited for this weekend’s home opener.”
Barone, 22, joins the Cosmos after a stint with the Milwaukee Torrent in the National Premier Soccer League. The Howard Beach, N.Y. native is a recent alumnus of Stony Brook University – and brother to Cosmos midfielder Giuseppe Barone.
“I’m very happy to have signed for the New York Cosmos,” Barone said. “I’m grateful to the staff for giving me this opportunity to represent my hometown club. I’m ready to give my best for the club and the fans, and I’m hoping to help us bring home some silverware.”
The Cosmos kick off the fall season against Michigan Stars FC at Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, N.Y. Saturday at 7 p.m.
It is a closed-door match, but can be watched on www.mycujoo.tv.
