PITTSBURGH – Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC scored three goals in the second half as it cruised to a 4-1 triumph past Red Bull II in a USL Championship match at Highmark Stadium Saturday night.
Robbie Mertz tallied twice for Riverhouds SC (4-2-0, 12 points), which defeated slumping NYRB II (2-4-0, 6) for the second time this season.
The hosts opened the scoring in the third minute as Mertz converted a penalty kick.
He recorded his second goal in the 61st minute before Ropapa Mensah made it 3-0 off a pass from Raymond Lee. Anthony Velarde rounded out the scoring for Pittsburgh in the 81st minute.
NYRB II forward Dantouma Toure scored his first professional goal three minutes into stoppage time, putting in a pass from midfielder Cherif Dieye.
Forward Sebastian Elney and defender Preston Kilwien each made their 30th appearance for the club.
Midfielder Chris Lema made his 63rd appearance for NYRB II, putting him sole position of second place all-time, one shy from tying Jared Stroud for the all-time lead.
