The Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League Wednesday announced that Henry Reyes of Gjøa will received the Herbert Heilpern Scholarship.
Reyes is the central defender and captain of the Boys Under-19 side SC Gjøa Solskjaer. The Brooklyn, N.Y. resident was awarded the scholarship based on his grades, SAT scores and playing ability.
“Henry always set a great example for the team, very helpful and motivating towards his teammates. His qualities on and off the field were rewarded with the player of the year award at Gjøa and we are very proud of him for receiving this scholarship,” his coach Tiago Valente said. “We look forward to seeing Henry excel at college in the classroom and on the soccer field.”
The CJSL Scholarship is worth $4,000 over $1,000 installments for four years of college.
Heilpern was a U.S. Soccer and Eastern New York Hall of Fame inductee who served as president of what is known today as the Cosmopolitan Soccer League and the CJSL.
