HARRISON, N.J. – The Red Bulls announced Wednesday that midfielder Josh Sims has returned to Southampton FC.

The Major League Soccer team will not exercise options to extend Sims’ time with the club.

“In light of the ongoing effects of the global pandemic and all of the uncertainties that remain, we understand Josh’s wishes to be closer to home and have come to an agreement with Southampton to recall the player,” Red Bulls sporting director Denis Hamlett said in a statement.

During his two-season tenure with the Red Bulls, the 23-year-old Sims played nine games, started five and recorded an assist over 523 minutes. He made two appearances this season, totalling 45 minutes as a substitute, before COVID-19 pandemic.
