HARRISON, N.J. – Midfielder Sabrina Flores and Sky Blue FC have agreed to a two-year deal prior to the NWSL Challenge Cup, it was announced late Sunday night.

As per team and National Women’s Soccer League policies, further details were not disclosed.

“We are really pleased to welcome Sabrina back to Sky Blue,” head coach Freya Coombe said in a statement. “She has experience playing in Spain, which brings a different tactical challenge and as a result has increased her game understanding. She brings this experience back to the team and we are excited to see her back in a Sky Blue jersey.”

This was Livingston, N.J. native’s second contract with Sky Blue FC. While on a national team replacement contract, Flores saw time in four matches in 2019.

“It is an amazing feeling to be back with Sky Blue,” said Flores. “I’m beyond grateful to be representing this club and my home state of New Jersey again. I can’t wait to be out on the pitch in Utah next week for the NWSL Challenge Cup.”

Flores, 24, played for Notre Dame University from 2014-18, appearing in 82 games. Splitting time between the backline and midfield, Flores logged five goals and 18 assists. As a senior, she led the Fighting Irish in minutes played (1,522) and assists (five).

The 5-3 Flores followed up her collegiate career spending time in 2018 with LA Galaxy OC of United Women’s Soccer. The All-UWS all-star played eight matches, recorded five assists in 716 minutes.

Flores joins Sky Blue with several years of international experience. While competing with the U.S. women’s Under-20 team, she appeared at the 2015 Concacaf Women’s U-20 Championship and the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. Flores made a federation switch in 2018 after being called into training with the senior Mexico women’s national team, playing alongside her twin sister Monica.

“Since her stint with Sky Blue in 2019, we have kept in touch with Sabrina and been following her career,” Sky Blue general nanager Alyse LaHue said. “She’s a true professional, with incredible upside, and we’re so happy to have her back with the club again.”

Sky Blue will return to competition, kicking off against OL Reign Tuesday, June 30 at 10 p.m. ET in the preliminary round of the Challenge Cup. All preliminary round matches will be streamed on CBS All Access.
