United Soccer Coaches is asking soccer fans to sign a petition that supports cutting soccer at the Division I level, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a press release, the organization stated that the NCAA could issue a waiver that would allow colleges and conferences to cut a number of sports while retaining their D-1 status.
“This means the potential for fewer teams, fewer scholarships, and fewer opportunities for student-athletes competing in Olympic sports like soccer,” the United Soccer Coaches said. “We need YOUR help to tell the NCAA to #SaveOurSports!”
United Soccer Coaches said that as members of the Intercollegiate Coach Association Coalition, the organization “strongly opposes this drastic measure because we know first-hand the far-reaching benefits college athletic programs provide student-athletes and their families.”
The organization has a goal of sending 100,000 signatures to the NCAA.
