HOWELL, N.J. – Sky Blue FC won’t be taking to the field this Sunday at Red Bull Arena in what should have been the club’s home-opening match against OL Reign due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

There will still be plenty of Sky Blue action for supporters for which to tune in. The club has a full day of activities planned as part of its #StayHomeOpener events.

“While we, unfortunately, aren’t able to congregate together Sunday at Red Bull Arena, in what would have undoubtedly been a historic game for our club, we still want to join together with a sense of community to celebrate the day in the best way we can – through online engagement,” Sky Blue FC general manager Alyse LaHue said.

Events to take place during the #StayHomeOpener include:

All Day

Sky Blue FC is more than 90 minutes of play between the white lines. We are our supporters – a community that has shown strength and resilience these past few weeks. Share how you do a SBFC game day. Share your tailgate pictures, best goal celebration videos, favorite Sky Blue FC gear, etc., and don’t forget to tag us and use “SBFC #StayHomeOpener.”

11 a.m – 2 p.m.

Sky Blue will share videos with players, including Kailen Sheridan and Paige Monaghan, reflecting on past games and sharing their game-day routines and superstitions. Stay tuned into SBFC social channels to learn something new about your favorite players.

1 p.m.

The first live event of the day kicks off just as any other home game would…with a tailgate! A Digital Tailgate Zoom Session presented with Cloud 9 and Season Ticket Members will be hosted by LaHue and head coach Freya Coombe. Sky Blue FC players, including team-captain Sarah Woldmoe, will also be joining. Registration is required and members of these groups will receive more information prior to the event.

Woldmoe, a five-year veteran of the club, said: “I’m obviously sad that we can’t be at Red Bull Arena Sunday with our fans but I’m excited to see our Season Ticket Members, Cloud 9 and fans digitally.” She continued, “I can’t wait to see everyone in person as soon as it is safe to do so, and I know that our official home opener this season is going to be fantastic.”

3 p.m.

Sky Blue FC will be battling it out (digitally) against OL Reign. Imani Dorsey and Erica Skroski will challenge OL Reign players playing the popular digital party game.

5 p.m.

Sky Blue FC hosts its second #SBFCeatslocal Dinner and Game nightand centered around the weekly Trivia Hour the club hosts on Sundays. During the first iteration of this event, the Zoom chat was maxed out with 100 participants and over 40 restaurants represented across five different states. Supporters are once again encouraged to support their local community by ordering dinner from a local eatery and join in a Zoom call to play a few rounds of trivia hosted by LaHue and co-hosted by defender Gina Lewandowski. Along with one of our other community initiatives, Sky Blue has invited those participating to gather their arts and crafts supplies to make “thinking of you” cards for caretakers battling COVID-19.

Registration is required. Those planning to attend should RSVP here no later than Sunday, April 26 at 2 p.m. ET.
