QUEENS, N.Y. — Queensboro FC announced Tuesday has the hiring of Cosmos assistant coach Luis Gutierrez as its technical director.

Gutierrez served as strength and conditioning coach for the Cosmos.

He will work closely with coaching and technical staff to identify players domestically and globally as Queensboro prepares to enter the USL Championship for the 2021 season.

“We are excited to have Luis join Queensboro FC as we begin building our first ever roster,” Queensboro FC founding partner David Villa said in a statement. “He has a deep understanding of the game and has a history of finding top local and global talent.”

Gutierrez played in Spain at the second division level. Gutierrez received his Bachelor’s Degree in Sport Science and Master’s Degree in Sports Business while living in Madrid. He maintains UEFA’s A and B coaching licenses.

Before joining the Cosmos as a fitness coach, Gutierrez held the same position for Spanish clubs at the second and third division level in Spain. He also worked with the 2015 Cosmos B side that won the National Premier Soccer League title.

Guiterrez was a member of the Cosmos coaching staff that captured the 2015 and 2016 North American Soccer League championships.

“I am very excited for this great opportunity and challenge,” Gutierrez said. “I am honored to be named yechnical firector of Queensboro FC. I look forward to working together with David and the entire staff to build the best team possible that will make our Queens community proud.”
