The Rochester Lancers have tentatively scheduled a celebration commemorating the 50th anniversary of their 1970 North American Soccer League championship later this spring.

The present time, the Lancers have targeted June 6 as date. It is considered tentative due to the Coronavirus pandemic, which has shelved all sports in the U.S.

Andrew Battisti, one of the hosts of the Soccer is a Kick in the Grass radio show, announced the news on the show on Monday night. Battisti admitted plans could change depending on when soccer returns to the playing field in the United States.

The Lancers plan to have a doubleheader that Saturday at their home field at Aquinas Institute in Rochester, N.Y. The Lady Lancers will host an undetermined United Women’s Soccer team at 2 p.m., followed by the Lancers men taking on FC Buffalo in a National Premier Soccer League encounter at 5 p.m.

All Lancers outdoor games are doubleheaders.

In its first year in the NASL, Rochester overcame a slow start to win its only league title, defeating the Washington Darts in a home-and-home series.
