Bob Montgomery has been named the winner of the first Paul LeSueur Ambassador of the Game Award.
Montgomery, the former Adelphi University men’s soccer coach and one-time Red Bulls director of player development will be honored at the Long Island Soccer Player Hall of Fame dinner at the Huntington Hilton in Melville, N.Y. on Saturday at 7 p.m.
An East Meadow, N.Y. native, Montgomery coached two important members of the U.S. men’s national team. Center back Mike Windischmann captained the USMNT at the 1990 World Cup and midfielder Chris Armas was considered the best defensive midfielder in Major League Soccer during his era.
Montgomery is a Long Island Junior Soccer League Hall of Fame member.
The award is named after the late LISPOF executive director to honor an outstanding member of the soccer community that has shown extraordinary sacrifice and leadership in the Long Island soccer community and beyond. LeSueur passed away in June 2019.
