HARRISON, N.J. – Red Bulls II have signed midfielder Cherif Dieye to a USL Championship contract pending federation approval and receipt of a P-1 visa, the club announced Monday.

Dieye, 22, was a four-year letterman at the University of Louisville. During his senior year, he recorded seven goals and added six assists to earn a second team All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection. As a junior, he earned All-ACC third team honors and was named to the All-ACC Tournament Team after scoring the game-winning goal in the championship match against the University of North Carolina.

“We are very excited to add Cherif to the team. We feel he brings a lot of explosiveness in the attack,” head coach John Wolyniec said. “He is a very athletic plater that has done well with the style and feel he has a lot of potential as a dangerous attacker.”

The Dakar, Senegal native played for IMG Academy for three seasons. During his final two years, he scored 60 goals and had 21 assists in 44 matches. He was named Most Valuable Player for the IMG U-17 Boys team.

Dieye was selected by the Red Bulls with the 15th overall pick in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft. He participated in the first team preseason camps in Bradenton, Fla. and Tucson, Ariz.
