LOS ANGELES — Matt Lewis could not have asked for a better and more memorable professional debut on Friday night.

The Cosmos center back scored Detroit City FC’s first goal in its 2-0 season-opening win over the Los Angeles Force in the National Independent Soccer Association.

Lewis, who is on loan to Detroit for the spring season, found the net in the 22nd minute with Roddy Green adding an insurance goal in second-half stoppage time.

Former Cosmos Kevin Venegas took a free kick at the edge of the penalty area that found captain Stephen Carroll at the back post. Carroll’s pass across the goal line found an unmarked Lewis in front of goal.
