TUCSON, Ariz. — Cristian Cásseres Jr. celebrated his contract extension with a goal and an assist to lead the Red Bulls to a 2-1 victory over Sporting Kansas City in their final preseason match, at the Visit Tucson Sun Cup on Saturday.

Cásseres converted a penalty kick for the game-winning goal to snap a 1-1 tie in the 86th minute.

Tom Barlow drew the penalty as he and a defender battled for the ball.

Cásseres Jr. also assisted Florian Valot earlier in the second half off a corner kick in the 59th minute. Seconds after that score, SKC leveled the match.

Goalkeeper Ryan Meara was forced out of the game due to an apparent injury. David Jensen finished the game.

Omir Fernandez was got minutes after being forced from the game due to a heavy challenge in New York’s previous match.

Center back Tim Parker wore the captains’ armband.

The Red Bulls’ next game will be their 25th MLS season opener against FC Cincinnati at Red Bull Arena on Sunday, March 1.
