With the kick off of the Concacaf Hexagonal for World Cup qualifying looming at the end of the year, the U.S. men’s national team starts its 2020 campaign with an international friendly on Saturday.

The Americans host long-time rival and nemesis Costa Rica in the match at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif. at 3:55 p.m ET (ESPNNews, UniMás and TUDN).

This year’s January camp has offered up a huge opportunity for players to stake their claim going forward. Besides World Cup qualifying, the U.S. has Olympic qualifying and the Concacaf Nations League semifinals in the first half of the year.

“The theme of the whole camp was staking their claim, looking to improve their situation and get a firm grasp of where they fit in in the player pool,” USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter said. “I would expect there to be young players in the lineup and that’s perfectly okay. They’ve worked hard all month so far and it’ll be nice to give them an opportunity to perform.”
