Twenty-two of the 23 players were on the U.S. women’s national team’s roster have been named to the team’s January training camp, U.S. Soccer announced Friday morning. The only player from that team not on the roster was forward Alex Morgan, who is pregnant.

The 28 players on the rroster will train in Tampa, Fla. from Jan. 5-15.

After the camp, Andonovski will name the 20-player roster for Olympic qualifying.

“The players are coming off their break so I know everyone will be excited, rested, refreshed and ready to tackle our next goals, which are having a productive training camp and preparing for Olympic qualifying,” head coach Valtko Andonovski said. “A long-time strength of this team has been the internal competition on the training field and our coaching staff is looking forward to seeing that during camp as it will help us pick the best team to take to qualifying and try to earn our berth to Tokyo.”

Among the familiar names were Megan Rapinoe, the FIFA Best Women’s Player of the Year, U.S. Soccer’s female player of the year Julie Ertz, the ageless Carli Lloyd and metropolitan area products Crystal Dunn (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and Allie Long (Northport, N.Y.)

The roster features five top National Women’s Soccer League players and 19-year-old forward Sophia Smith, who is the youngest player in camp, the only uncapped player and the only non-professional. She is a rising junior at Stanford.

Three players on this roster – Smith, Portland Thorns FC defender Margaret “Midge” Purce and Houston Dash goalkeeper Jane Campbell – attended the USA’s December Identification Camp in Florida.
