HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Hofstra University junior forward Matthew Vowinkel was named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Scholar All-America second team, the association announced Wednesday.
Vowinkel became the fifth Hofstra men’s soccer student-athlete to earn Scholar All-America honors, joining Michael Todd (2006), Chris Griebsch (2013), Joseph Holland (2015) and Sean Nealis (2018). The award came two days after he was named to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-East Region Team.
Vowinkel, a finance major with a 3.40 grade-point average, has earned several postseason awards. He was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Region second team and to the All-Colonial Athletic Association first team.
The New Hyde Park, N.Y. native led the Pride with a career-high 13 goals and 28 points. He closed the season on a tear with nine goals and an assist in the final six games. His goals and points were the most for a Pride player since 2005. Vowinkel ranked second in the CAA in goals scored and points.
