NEW YORK – Exit the MLS College Combine and enter the MLS College Showcase.

Major League Soccer announced Wednesday that the first College Showcase will be held in Raleigh, N.C. Friday through Sunday.

The combine usually was held in Fort Lauderdale or south Florida, just before the United Soccer Coaches convention.

The three-day event will give technical staffs from every MLS club an opportunity to scout the top collegiate prospects in the nation, including players with remaining NCAA eligibility.

The showcase will feature 40 top college players, ranging from freshmen to seniors, participating in a series of training sessions, testing, interviews and games. This event will allow MLS clubs to interact with potential SuperDraft selections earlier in their collegiate careers without jeopardizing players’ collegiate eligibility.

The event will be held in conjunction with NCAA Men’s College Cup and is a closed-door scouting event sanctioned by the NCAA.

Players on the four teams still in College Cup contention will not participate in the showcase. Technical staff from MLS clubs will attend the remaining College Cup matches in Cary, N.C. Dec. 13 and Dec. 15.

Homegrown-eligible underclassmen players – young talents developed by MLS club academies – will not participate in the 2019 adidas MLS College Showcase.

The eligible player list for the 2020 MLS SuperDraft will be announced at a later date following the showcase.
