The Cosmos won’t play in the National Independent Soccer Association until the fall.
Over this past weekend in Chicago, the U.S. Soccer Federation board of directors approved four new teams for NISA in the spring: Chattanooga FC, Detroit City FC, Michigan Stars FC and Oakland Roots SC.
The Cosmos had applied to join the league for the fall season. Fall season sanctioning was not on the meeting agenda.
The Cosmos’ application to play in NISA was approved by the league, but it needs to be OKed by the USSF.
The next time the USSF board of directors can approve teams to play professionally is expected to be at its Annual General Meeting in Nashville, Tenn. Feb. 13-16.
