EVERETT, Mass. — They didn’t play a full 90 minutes in their final qualifying match, but the N.Y. Pancyprian Freedoms still reached the 2020 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

In a game that was called by match officials after 58 minutes due to an unplayable field at Everett Memorial Stadium, the three-time Open Cup champion Freedoms were declared 1-0 winners over Brockton FC United Sunday afternoon.

Charlie Ledula, who most recently played with the Cosmos, scored the lone goal in the fourth minute of the match that was played freezing rain. As the game went on, the field conditions deteriorated as most of the pitch wound up under water.

The Pancyprians will find out their foes in the opening round of the competition next spring.

The Freedoms, who are in second place in Cosmopolitan Soccer League Division 1, are scheduled to return to league action at the N.Y. Athletic Club on Sunday, Dec. 8.
