STANFORD, Calif. – The Hofstra University women had an uphill battle against top-ranked Stanford University, which scored three goals in the second half en route to a 4-0 victory in the second round of the NCAA Division I tournament at Cagan Stadium Friday night.

Catarina Macario scored twice as the Cardinal (20-1-0) advanced to the third round with its 15th consecutive win.

Stanford enjoyed a 22-3 shot advantage, 22-3.

The Cardinal wasted no time getting on the scoreboard with Madison Haley opening the scoring in the third minute. Sam Hiatt played Kiki Pickett into acres of space on the right wing. Pickett’s cross met the head of Haley, who steered home her 11th goal for the 1-0 lead.

Macario curled a powerful shot from 25 yards off the post in the seventh minute before Haley rattled the crossbar in the 15th minute. The Pride settled in, defensively, and limited Stanford’s chances for the remainder of the half.

After a pedestrian start to the half, Stanford exploded for three goals in under three minutes, starting with Macario’s free kick in the 55th minute. Macario beat Hofstra’s defense wall from 25 yards, striking the post en route to her 29th goal.

Shortly thereafter, Macario secured her brace. Smith cut it back from the left wing to Abby Greubel, who set up Macario’s second of the match from inside the box. Forty six seconds later, Pickett cut it back from the end line to the streaking Smith, who smashed it into the net to make it 4-0.

Hofstra had a corner kick opportunity at 61:11, when sophomore Miri Taylor’s cross set up a Fisher’s header that was saved by goalkeeper Katie Meyer.

Pride goalkeeper Skylar Kuzmich finished with a two saves. Stanford enjoyed a 22-3 shot advantage, 22-3.
