Long-time Rochester Lancers midfielder Gary Boughton has announced that he will retire from indoor soccer after this Major Arena Soccer League season.

The Buffalo, N.Y. native made the announcement on his Facebook page Friday afternoon.

“I wanted to be the first to let you guys know that this will be my last season as a professional indoor player for the Rochester Lancers,” he wrote. “I will be retiring at the end of this year. It’s been a decision that’s been tough, but I know it’s the right one for me. It has been an incredible time being a part of this first-class organization., dating all the way back to our first season in 2011. Because of all of you guys that I keep coming back.”

Boughton, who turned 31 Nov. 16, has played for the Lancers in each of their Major Indoor Soccer League, MASL and M2 seasons since the 2011-12 campaign, made his 100th Lancers appearance last year. He has recorded 48 goals and 39 assists as the team reached the playoffs in three of his five seasons.

“I can’t thank you all enough for allowing me of being part of being a part of the community, this family,” he wrote.  “And I am excited for this final ride.

“Thank you for all the love and support throughout the years. And, let’s go Lancers.”

Lancers owner Salvatore “SoccerSam” Fantauzzo thanked Boughton for his time with the Lancers.

“Gary, you’re a huge part of our success since 2011,” Fantauzzo wrote on Facebook. “The SuperMan celebration, your positive energy on & off the field touched so many fans, players & owners. Thank you and I can’t wait to celebrate every Home & Away game this season with you.”

The Lancers kick off the MASL season at the Dome Arena in Henrietta, N.Y. over Thanksgiving weekend. They host Utica City FC Friday, Nov. 29 before welcoming the Harrisburg Heat Saturday, Nov. 30.
