A B.W. Gottschee product has signed a professional contract with Liverpool FC.

Matteo Ritaccio, 18, who has been a member of the club’s Under-18 squad, agreed to a deal with the English Premier League side.

Ritaccio, who performed for the Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League club from the age of seven to 16, is highly regarded by the Reds.

As a 13-year-old, Ritaccio had been scouted by Liverpool during a U.S. youth national team training camp before joined the club during the summer of 2018.

“A tough-tackling and exciting player,” the Liverpool website said of Ritaccio.

He started the season playing well for the U-18 squad, but he has been sidelined by a leg injury. Ritaccio expects to return in early 2020.

“Everyone associated with the club is very proud of him,” Gottschee Academy director Paul McGlynn said.

Ritaccio also holds an Italian passport.
