ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Lancers Tuesday announced their 25-player preseason roster.
Beginning with the 2019-20 regular season, each Major Arena Soccer League team is restricted to 26 registered players. On game days, those rosters will be limited to 14 field players and as many as two goalkeepers.
The Lancers opened up training camp Oct. 6 with almost 40 players. Head coach Doug Miller and assistants Adam Schwartz, John Berardicurti and Marc Sotile have trimmed the roster down to 25 playerst.
Several former MASL, M2 and National Premier Soccer League (outdoor) Lancers have returned. The Lancers also hope for the return of four key senior college players that will join the team following their seasons. One former M2 player who is playing outside the country also may come back.
The roster will comprise mostly of Rochester and Western New York based players. Only six players have MASL experience (Jeremy Ortiz, Gary Boughton, Michael Cunningham, Sean Hantes, Tim Crawford and Sotile). Several players also played for the team’s M2 team last season that reached the semifinals (Anthony Rozzano, Zikret Osmic, August Finn, David Wright, Alex Harling, August Gerber and Andriy Demydiv).
The Lancers travel to Canada to play the MetroStars in St. Catharine’s, Ontario Nov. 22-24.
They open their home schedule at the Dome Arena against Utica City FC Nov. 29 and the Harrisburg Heat Nov. 30. Both games kick off at 7 p.m.
