WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Monmouth University women’s soccer team captured its fourth consecutive Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship after a dominating 6-0 win over Fairfield University at Hesse Field on The Great Lawn Sunday night.
The Hawks (14-2-2) clinched their fifth NCAA Tournament trip since 2013 and its fourth consecutive. Fairfield fell to 11-6-3.
Lauren Karabin and Maddie Gibson paced the Hawks with two goals apiece.
Goalkeeper Amanda Knaub made three saves to earn her 14th shutout of the season and 44th career clean sheet. Her 14 shutouts are tied for second-most in a season in Monmouth history with Lia Fierro (2009).
Sarina Jones was named the 2019 MAAC Championship Most Outstanding Player. Jess Johnson, Karabin and Jill Conklin were named to the MAAC All-Championship Team.
“An amazing season capped off with an incredible performance in the final,” head coach Krissy Turner said. “I am super proud of this team. My staff did a fantastic job all season long, the players bought in, and the end result is a championship.”
Karabin tallied two goals in the first half before Jill Conklin scored on a diving header with 35 seconds remaining to help Monmouth build a 3-0 halftime lead.
Eight minutes after intermission Madie Gibson scored the first of her two second-half goals to put Monmouth up 4-0. Gibson’s second goal came 33 seconds after Lexie Palladino’s free kick in the 69th minute extended the lead to five.
Gibson has 35 career goals and 102 points.
