HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Hofstra University men placed seven players on the All-Colonial Athletic Association teams, highlighted by first team selection Matthew Vowinkel, as the league announced the selections Thursday.
The teams were chosen in a vote of the conference’s nine head coaches.
The Pride also saw co-captains George O’Malley and Luca Tausch, and Petter Soelberg earn All-CAA second team accolades and Oscar Ramsay, Alex Ashton and Frederik Rieper garner All-CAA third team honors. Rieper also was named to the league’s all-rookie team.
Vowinkel, a junior forward, leads the Pride with 12 goals and 26 points. He closed the regular season on a tear with eight goals and an assist in the final four games. The 12 goals and 26 points are career highs. Vowinkel ranks second in the CAA and 12th in the nation in goals.
O’Malley, a junior defender, helped lead a Pride defense that posted six shutouts. The Pride were strong down the stretch, holding the opposition to four goals in six games. He also added three goals and an assist. O’Malley was an all-rookie selection in 2017.
Tausch, a sophomore midfielder, was a CAA All-Rookie Team selection last season. This season he has been a fixture in the Pride lineup, contributing offensively and defensively. He has two assists.
Soelberg earned All-CAA second team honors in his first season on the Pride after transferring from the University of South Carolina. The junior midfielder ranks second on the team in scoring with six goals and two assists for 14 points.
Ashton repeated as the CAA third team goalkeeper after tallying a 9-5-2 record, a 1.30 goals against average, and 47 saves. Ashton, a graduate student, has five solo shutouts.
Ramsay, a senior midfielder, earned his first postseason accolade after recording three assists in 16 games. He also has been a steady contributor on the defensive side of the ball.
Rieper started all 17 games during the regular season and the 6-5 center back has been a key cog on the Pride’s defene. He also has been a threat on the offensive end, recording four goals and one assist for nine points.
Hofstra (9-6-2), the third seed in the CAA Championship, will be in action Friday at 1 p.m. in the quarterfinals against No. 6 Delaware. The game will be played at Sentara Park in Harrisonburg, Va.
