EDISON, N.J. – The Monmouth University women closed their regular season with a victory over Fairfield University as two student-athletes were recognized by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference as players of the week, the league office announced Monday.

Goalkeeper Amanda Knaub earned defensive player of the week honors, while Maddison midfielder Perna was chosen as the MAAC rookie of the week. Knaub claimed her seventh career defensive recognition and Perna was named rookie of the week for the first time.

Against the top scoring offense in the MAAC, Knaub made three saves to secure the 2-0 win and complete a perfect MAAC regular season. Knaub collected her 12th shutout and seventh consecutive clean sheet. She also extended her scoreless streak to 642:55, the longest stretch of her career.

Perna scored in the 22nd minute of Monmouth’s win over the Stags in a matchup of the top two teams in the conference. Perna’s game-winning goal was the third of her season and gave the Hawks their 11th consecutive win and seventh consecutive conference regular season title.

Top-seeded Monmouth hosts No. 6 Niagara University on Thursday at 5 p.m. in the semifinal round of the MAAC Tournament. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
