TOWSON, Md. – The Hofstra University women scored five second-half goals in a 29-minute span in a 5-1 victory over Towson University in a Colonial Athletic Association contest at the Tiger Soccer Park Thursday afternoon.

Junior Lucy Porter scored twice as the Pride (12-3-2, 6-0-2) extended its unbeaten streak to a nation-best 12 matches while Towson dropped to 3-13-1, 0-8-0.

The Pride had several first half opportunities including a shot that hit the crossbar by freshman Brianna Passaro, but Hofstra couldn’t capitalize en route to a scoreless tie at halftime despite the Pride holding an 8-0 edge on shots.

Things still weren’t going Hofstra’s way minutes into the second half when junior Miri Taylor had two shots roll a ball-width wide on each side of the post, but the third time was a charm for Taylor as she fired a shot to the back right corner of the net in the 58th minute. It was assisted by Sabrina Bryan.

Porter made it a 2-0 margin when she connected on another Bryan pass in front of the left side of the net in the 60th minute, before adding her conference-best 14th goal of the season on a penalty kick nearly three minutes later after a hand ball in the box by the Tigers.

The scoring parade continued when Bryan, who recorded her third assist of the match, sent a ball to sophomore Alia Mentzell. Mentzell tapped the ball in for her first career goal and a 4-0 lead in the 74th minute.

Towson’s Christiana Davey tallied in the 79th minute, but the Pride found the net as Mentzell fired for a top-shelf goal off a pass by sophomore Sam Diamond in the 86th minute.

Hofstra will close out the regular season at William & Mary Sunday at 1 p.m.
