NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The Monmouth University women jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 4-0 victory over Niagara University in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game at Niagara Field Saturday afternoon.
Four players scored for the Hawks (10-2-2, 8-0-0), who ran their unbeaten streak to 11 games (10-0-1). That includes nine consecutive wins.
The win also gave Monmouth guaranteed the Hawks a semifinal home game in the MAAC tournament. The Hawks also have won at least 10 games in 14 successive seasons.
Goalkeeper Amanda Knaub made four saves to secure her 10th shutout this season and 40th career clean sheet.
“This team continues to find a variety of ways to score goals and earn shutouts,” head coach Krissy Turner said. “To be undefeated on the road in the regular season is a terrific accomplishment.”
Dana Scheriff opened the scoring for Monmouth 13 minutes into the match when she took a one-touch pass from Lauren Karabin off a Sarina Jones throw-in. Scheriff’s left footed strike gave Monmouth a lead it never relinquished.
Jones helped set up Monmouth’s second goal when she sent a long cross to Alexa Correa for a left-footed blast that she buried in the 32nd minute. The Hawks added a third goal when Jill Conklin scored a little more than a minute later in the 33rd minute.
Monmouth added to its lead when Lexie Palladino scored on a breakaway in the 71st minute.
