HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Mark Lindstrom scored 5:08 into extratime to give UNCW a 3-2 win over the Hofstra University men Saturday in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.
Hofstra (5-5, 2-2), ranked seventh in the latest United Soccer Coaches Atlantic Region poll, twice lost leads. The Seahawks, ranked fifth in the same poll, evened their mark at 5-5-1 overall and 3-0-1 in CAA.
In extratime, UNCW put the pressure on the Pride and forced a corner kick. Danny Reynolds delivered a high ball that the 6-3 Lindstrom headed past goalkeeper Alex Ashton.
The Pride opened the scoring at 20:28 as Lennart Seufert made a run with the ball of the left side and dumped a pass to Adam Savill near the left corner. Savill delivered a cross that Matthew Vowinkel got a right foot on for the goal. But UNCW equalized as Athit Berg’s service to the far post was headed in by Phillip Goodrum at 41:30.
Hofstra opened the second half strong and at 52:49 Storm Strongin gave the Pride the 2-1 lead as he left-footed a loose ball in following a flurry of headers by the UNCW defense in an attempt to clear the ball out of the goal area.
The Seahawks connected for the tying goal at 78:48 when Goodrum found Cannon Tootle and the freshman’s shot from the right side went across the goal mouth into the left corner for his first career goal.
