BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman Anja Suttner scored in the 70th minute to help boost the Hofstra University women to overcome a two-deficit and into a 2-2 draw with Northeastern University in a Colonial Athletic Association game at Parsons Field Thursday night.
Hofstra (8-3-1, 2-1-0), which out shot the hosts, 29-14, fell behind Northeastern (4-7-1, 1-1-1) as the Huskies scored two goals on back-to-back shots in the opening 10 minutes.
The Pride attempted three corner kicks by the 24th minute and finally connected when junior Lucy Shepherd deflected in a pass by classmate Sabrina Bryan to cut the deficit in half. It appeared that the Pride scored again four minutes later, however an offside call negated the goal and Northeastern maintained a one-goal lead at halftime.
Suttner headed in a corner kick by junior Miri Taylor to equalize in the 70th minute.
Opportunities continued for the Pride throughout the rest of the half, highlighted by a header by junior Lucy Porter that hit the crossbar with 10 seconds remaining in regulation.
Northeastern nearly claimed the game-winner with a shot that hit the post in the 110th minute.
Hofstra will travel to the College of Charleston for a CAA match Sunday.
