ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Lancers announced Thursday that Michael Cunningham and Anthony Rozzano will return to the club for the 2019-20 Major Arena Soccer League season.
Both players, who have played with the Lancers’ National Premier Soccer League and indoor teams, will serve as co-captains of the squad this campaign.
As per league and team policies, terms of the agreement were disclosed.
“These two players could play at any level in the country,” Lancers head coach Doug Miller said. “We are fortunate that they have decided to make Rochester their home.”
Born and raised in Nottingham, England, Cunningham came to the United States to play for Roberts Wesleyan College. He was named a two-time All-American. After college, he moved to Australia, where he played in the second division for a season before returning to the USA and signing with the Lancers M2 indoor team. The forward appeared in 13 games, recording 13 goals and five assists.
The 28-year-old Cunningham played 12 matches for the NPSL outdoor team, leading the team with six goals and three assists in 2019.
He also has his own Youtube channel, where he has more than 420,000 subscribers.
Rozzano, one of the best soccer players to come out of Rochester, played four seasons for Webster Schroeder High School, winning two Section 5 titles. He also was selected as All Greater Rochester player of the year two years in a row while being named high school All American in 2012.
He played four years at SUNY Albany, making 64 starts out of 68 games.
For the Lancers M2 side last year the 23-year-old defender appeared in nine matches, registering four goals and two assists, and helped the team secure third place in the playoffs. Rozzano played in 10 games this past NPSL season, connecting on three goals as a defender. He is an avid hiker and he just completed the walking the 46 highest peaks in the Adirondacks Mountains.
The Lancers will open the MASL season, visiting the MetroStars of Canada, Friday, Nov. 22 and Sunday, Nov. 24.
Their home opener is at the Dome Arena is set Friday, Nov. 29 against Utica City FC before they host the Harrisburg Heat Saturday, Nov. 30. Both games are at 7 p.m.
