EDISON, N.J. – Following Monmouth University’s victory over No. 25 the University of Texas, two Monmouth University women’s players were recognized by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference as players of the week, the league office announced Monday.
Madie Gibson was voted as the MAAC offensive player of the week, while Amanda Knaub earned MAAC fefensive player of the week honors. Gibson secured her fifth-career offensive player of the week award, while Knaub collected her sixth defensive recognition.
Gibson scored once and assisted on two other goals as Monmouth routed the Longhorns in Austin, Texas Sunday afternoon, 4-0. The fifth-year senior collected her first points of the season. Gibson’s two assists gave her 28 for her career, tied for second program history. She has 84 career points, tying her for eighth in team history. Gibson’s 28 career goals are tied for ninth at Monmouth all-time.
Knaub posted consecutive shutouts last week. Knaub made two saves in the Hawks’ extratime draw at Drexel, before making four stops vs. Texas. Knaub holds a shutout streak of 306:43 as Monmouth enters conference play. Knaub has four shutouts this season and 34 for her career.
The victory over Texas was Monmouth’s first over a Top 25 opponent since 2010.
The Hawks open up conference play when they travel to Saint Peter’s Saturday at noon.
