HAMILTON, N.Y. – A 71st-minute goal proved to be the difference as the Colgate University men squeaked past the Monmouth University, 1-0, Sunday.

After back-to-back diving saves from redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Sean Murray, the Raiders scored the game-winner with a shot to the lower right corner. Murray made five saves in the loss. The Hawks registered a season-high 12 shots on the day, including four on goal.

With six seconds left, Murray sent a long ball into the Colgate box. Sophomore Ebenezer Owusu got a good look inside the box, but the Raiders made the save. Monmouth then shot the ball into the net on the rebound, but time had expired.

“I am proud of these young men,” Monmouth head coach Robert McCourt said. “Today was a bitter pill to swallow. We came to Colgate down six players to injury, and went toe-to-toe with a very good, well-coached program. We thought we did enough in terms of the result, but again, I’m proud of these guys.”

The Hawks fell to 0-4-0. They will host Princeton Wednesday at 7 p.m.
