MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C – Adam Savill converted a penalty kick late in the first half and the Hofstra University men added two second-half goals en route to a 3-0 Colonial Athletic Association victory at the College of Charleston at Patriots Point Saturday afternoon.
Savill finished with a goal and an assist.
Hofstra improved to 3-2 on the season and 1-1 in CAA play. The Cougars slipped to 1-3-1 overall and 0-1 in league.
Jason Ramirez drew the foul from the Charleston defender as he dribbled down the right side of the box. Savill then converted the penalty kick past goalkeeper Isaac Alstrom at 41:42.
The Pride did not let up in the second half, dominating play. Hofstra outshot Charleston, 15-5, over the final 45 minutes and tacked on two more goals.
Savill sent a pass into the box and Hendrik Hebbeker one-touched it to Frederik Rieper, who slid a shot by Alstrom for a 2-0 lead at 71:54. About six minutes later, Petter Soelberg’s service into the box got all the way through and found the back of the net for the final goal.
Pride goalkeeper Alex Ashton made three saves, including two late in the game to preserve the shutout.
Hofstra hosts Stony Brook University in the Long Island Rivalry Wednesday at 7 p.m.
