SUPER CUP CONFRONTATION: LISFL defending champ Port Jeff vs. Serbia tonight

Defending champion Port Jefferson SC will take on Serbia in the LISFL Cangero Super Cup at Burns Park in Masspapequa, N.Y. Sunday at 7 p.m.

The Long Island Soccer Football League annual event kicks off its season. The match pits the LISFL Premier League champion against the cup winner. As it turns out, Port Jeff and Serbia finished one-two in the league last year.

The winner will advance to the Rapaglia Cup of the Eastern New York State Soccer Association next Sunday.

In last year’s final, Port Jeff defeated Kosmos United FC, 3-2, in penalty kicks after playing to a 2-2 draw.

The cup is named after former league president Anthony M. Cangero, who passed away in 2004.
