WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Early goals led the University of Pennsylvania past the Monmouth University men Friday night, 2-0.

The Quakers (1-0-0) scored in the ninth minute as freshman Kai Lammers curled a shot to the far post from the left side. Penn tacked on another in the 17th minute as Anthony Rovito sent a cross to the far post that found the head of Joey Bhangdia.

Monmouth’s redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Sean Murray secured two saves as the Hawks fell to 0-2-0.

“We had a tough start to the game,” Monmouth head coach Robert McCourt said. “Full credit to Penn for that. The boys bounced back and played really well in the second half, which is something we can build on.”

The Hawks will travel to Lafayette for its first road test Tuesday.
