PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Hofstra University women dropped a 2-1 non-conference decision to Brown University at Stevenson-Pincince Field Friday evening.
Claire Myers snapped a 1-1 deadlock off a counterattack in the 72nd minute to boost the Bears (1-0) over the Pride (1-2).
Brown attemped two corner kicks and two shots within the opening 12 minutes. Hofstra senior defender Monique Iannella was at the right place at the right time, stopping a shot on the line under 15 minutes in.
Despite Brown’s offensive pressure, it wasn’t until the 45th minute until the Bears broke through, as Abby Carchio’s free kick from just inches outside the top of the box made its way around the defensive wall and in.
Freshman goalkeeper Skylar Kuzmich made another save 45 seconds later, coming off her line to keep it a one-goal match at halftime.
Momentum shifted to the Pride in the second half, as the visitors forced two successive corner kicks in the 56th minute. The second of those helped find the equalizer as junior forward Sabrina Bryan struck with her left foot nearly 30 yards out from the right side off a pass from senior defender Monique Iannella.
