KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Sean McSherry scored twice, including the game-winner, to power Red Bull II to a 5-1 win over the Swope Park Rangers in a USL Championship game at Children’s Mercy Park Saturday night.

The Red Bulls (53 points) improved to 16-5-5.

Sean McSherry, who made his first professional start and first appearance since May 18 against the Tampa Bay Rowdies, opened up the scoring in the 7th minute. That was his first career professional goal.

He added his second goal in the 40th minute to give New York 2-1 lead. Defender Janos Loebe recorded his fifth and sixth assists of the season, his first assist on McSherry’s second score.

Defender Edgardo Rito extended NYRB II’s lead in the 45th minute with his second goal of the season. Midfielder Chris Lema recorded his sixth assist of the season.

Jared Stroud connected for his team-leading 12th goal of the season in the 51st minute for a 4-1 advantage.

Amarildo de Souza rounded out the scoring with his first goal of the season in second-half stoppage time.

Red Bull II will finish at road trip, visiting Indy Eleven Sept. 4 at 7 p.m.
