HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Hofstra University junior forward Matthew Vowinkel was named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association preseason team and the Pride was picked third in the preseason poll, it was announced Thursday by the conference.

The poll and preseason All-CAA squad was voted on by the league’s nine head coaches.

Vowinkel, an All-CAA third team choice last season, led the Pride in scoring with eight goals and 16 points. The New Hyde Park, N.Y. native ranked fourth in the CAA in goals and seventh in points.

The Pride received 45 points in the poll, finishing behind CAA champion and NCAA Division I quarterfinalist James Madison (61 points) and 2018 NCAA at-large selection UNCW (60 points). Hofstra defeated UNCW in the CAA semifinals last season and tied JMU in the championship game before the Dukes advanced on penalty kicks.

Hofstra finished last season with a 10-6-5 record and will open its campaign at home against Fordham University Aug. 29 at 5:30 p.m.
