PORTLAND, Ore. – Well, one point is better than none, especially on the road.

Imani Dorsey scored in the 69th minute to boost Sky Blue FC to a 1-1 draw with second place Portland Thorns in National Women’s Soccer League action Saturday night.

The result was more like a victory for last-place and struggling Sky Blue FC (9 points) moved to 2-10-3 while Portland (27) is 7-2-6.

Portland had an opportunity in the opening minute after a cross by defender Meghan Klingenberg was redirected off the head of forward Midge Purce just wide of the far-right post.

Sky Blue FC attempted to answer back in the fifth minute. Caprice Dydasco stripped that ball from Portland near the corner flag and sent a cross in that was cleared out to the feet of Julie James Doyle. Doyle’s shot went wide of the right post.

Purce almost put the Thorns up on the scoreboard in the eighth minute. Forward Caitlin Foord sent the into Purce in the box. Purce collected the ball at a tight angle and sent the ball off the left post.

In the 11th minute, Elizabeth Eddy collected a pass from Imani Dorsey and dropped it off to Sarah Killion, who took fired the shot just over the crossbar.

Sky Blue goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan was called into action in the 17th minute. Thorns captain Christine Sinclair played the ball through traffic into forward Haley Raso, who turned and took a shot towards the right post. Sheridan, however, made the diving save.

Portland got on the scoresheet in the 38th minute after a penalty kick was awarded from a foul committed by Estelle Johnson. Sinclair converted for a 1-0 edge.

In the 68th minute, Sky Blue tired to answer back but was denied by the left post. Set up in space on the left side, Killion sent the ball across to Gina Lewandowski running at the back post. She headed the ball at goal, only to be denied by the post.

Sky Blue FC tied it in the 69th minute after Dorsey sent a low shot into the back of the goal. Eddy received the ball from Killion on the endline and sent her pass to the top of the box where Dorsey was open. With one touch, Dorsey drilled her shot back at the far-right corner of the net.

Sky Blue FC will be on the road as it faces Utah Wednesday at 10 p.m. at Rio Tinto Stadium. Sky Blue returns home at Yurcak Field to host the Chicago Red Stars for the club’s Back to School Night Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 7 p.m.
