ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Former Rochester Lancers forward William Stone came back to haunt  his one-time teammates as he scored on either side of halftime to lead Erie Commodores FC to a 3-1 National Premier Soccer League win at Charles A. Schiano Field at Aquinas Institute on Sunday evening.

The result left the Lancers (5-2-0, 15 points) in second place in the East Conference Division while third-place Erie (14) improved to 4-2-2.

Erie rushed to a three-goal advantage before Rochester found the net.

Stone tallied in the 15th minute before Ivo Mendoza doubled the lead a minute into the second half. Stone struck for his second score in the 51st minute past goalkeeper Andrew Coughlin.

Michael Cunningham averted a shutout for the Lancers by scoring in the 62nd minute.

Rochester, which has three games remaining in the regular season to secure a playoff berth, next plays at Syracuse FC at Lazer Stadium at Onondaga Community College on Friday, July 5 at 7 p.m.

The Lancers will close out the season against FC Buffalo on Sunday, July 7 at 2 p.m. and then at Erie on Saturday, July 13 at 7 p.m.
