ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Lady Lancers dropped a 2-0 home decision to the Long Island Rough Riders in a United Women’s Soccer game at Charles A. Schiano Field at Aquinas Institute on Sunday afternoon.

Kerianne Scorce scored both goals off headers for the Rough Riders, one on each side of halftime.

“We possessed the ball well,” said Lady Lancers head coach Sal Galvano, whose team fell to 1-2-1. “We just can’t finish in the attacking third and we had a hard time getting shots off for quality opportunities.

“We still trying to find the right chemistry.”

The Rough Riders (3-2)  grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute when Mia Daly set up Scorce for her first goal past goalkeeper Catie Broderick.

Long Island gave itself some breathing room in the 59th minute, scoring off a corner kick. This time Scorce headed in a Kayla Saager cross.

“We didn’t mark up,” Galvano said.

Keeper Melissa Gugleilmo recorded the shutout for the Rough Riders.

Galvano praised the play of midfielder Luca Fahmer and center back Dylan Patterson.

“Luca did a fantastic job in the middle,” he said. “She’s just a workhorse. She was all over. She won balls, controlled it, distributed it, took shots. She was the all-around player today for me. She did really well.”

“Dylan Patterson a good job as well, holding up our defensive side of things.”

In the second game of the doubleheader at Aquinas, the Rochester Lancers defeated Cleveland SC, 2-1, in a National Premier Soccer League match, to avenge a 4-0 loss to that team on May 26.

The Lady Lancers next host the Connecticut Fusion at Aquinas on Sunday, June 9 at 2 p.m. in another doubleheader. The Lancers men will welcome the Pittsburgh Hotspurs in an NPSL match at 5 p.m.
