Med City FC forward-midfielder Francisco Neto has been named the National Premier Soccer League player of the week.
Neto recorded two goals and two assists over two games last week.
“It’s a pleasure being awarded NPSL player of the week,” Neto said. “I’ve been working hard to help Med City as much as I can and I definitely couldn’t do it without my teammates. I think we’re getting stronger as a team and step by step we will achieve our goals. With no doubt, this award motivates me even more to keep helping my team and going after my goals for this season.”
He has three goals in three conference matches this season.
“As a team, we are proud that Cisko has received this well-deserved award,” Med City FC head coach Neil Cassidy said. “He would be the first to tell you that this is truly a team award. Without the players around him playing at a high level, he wouldn’t have had the opportunities in front of goal that he has enjoyed so far this season.”
Neto calls Rio de Janeiro, Brazil home. He completed his senior season at West Virginia University Institute of Technology in Beckley, W. Va., in 2017, playing in 22 games and starting 21. He scored 14 goals and added three assists as a senior, earning NAIA All-America honorable mention honors for his efforts.
“We’re really happy for Cisko to receive this honor,” Med City FC general manager Frank Spaeth said. “Not only is he a very good player, but he’s also a great person and always willing to do what he can to support the team and the club. We were pleased that he decided to return to the Mayhem for a second season.”
This is Neto’s second year with Med City FC. In 2018, he appeared in 14 matches, scoring six goals and adding five assists as a central midfield.
The winner of this national honor is determined by a vote of media members from across the country.
