Sunil Gulati has been elected to the National Soccer Hall of Fame in the Builders category, it was announced Saturday.

A New York City resident, Gulati was president of the U.S. Soccer Federation from 2006 through 2018.

He was elected in 2006 and re-elected in 2008 and 2012. Gulati guided U.S. Soccer during a period when the U.S. women’s national team won two World Cups and the men reached the quarterfinals in 2002.

Gulati is the Michael K. Dakolias Senior Lecturer at Columbia University.

This year’s induction ceremonies will take place at the National Soccer Hall of Fame at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas Sept. 21.

There will be more inductees announced Saturday.
