HARRISON, N.J. – The Red Bulls Under-23 team will travel to face Memphis 901 FC at AutoZone Soccer Park in the second round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Wednesday night.
Kick-off is set for 8 p.m. ET and can be seen live on ESPN+.
The U-23’s advanced to the second round after defeating F.C. Motown in penalty kicks, 5-4, in their first-round matchup. Midfielder Jeciel Cedeno scored the go-ahead goal in the 110th minute, but F.C. Motown’s Maximiliano Garcia tallied to equalize in the 119th minute to force a penalty kick shootout.
Midfielder Salvatore Esposito scored the game-winning penalty kick.
Memphis 901 FC is competing in its first season in the USL Championship. The team is in 15th place of the Eastern Conference with nine points. This will be its first appearance in the Open Cup.
The winner of the match will advance to the third round May 29. The game will be will be live-tweeted from the @RedBullsAcademy Twitter handle.
Following Wednesday’s encounter, the NYRB U-23’s will begin USL League Two action with a home contest against Evergreen F.C. Saturday at 7 p.m.
