New York City FC has announced that MLS SuperDraft second-round selection Abdi Mohamed signed his first professional contract with the Major League Soccer club.

Mohamed will join Memphis 901 FC in the United Soccer League on a season-long loan for this season.

NYCFC will have the right to recall Mohamed at any time during the loan period.

The 22-year-old defender was drafted by NYCFC as the 43rd overall pick of the draft.

Mohamed appeared in all 24 matches for the University of Akron in 2018, helping the Zips to the College Cup final. he scored one goal and added five assists.
