WARWICK, N.Y. – Participants in the Fox Soccer Academy got a big surprise when its owner, Christian Fuchs, was on hand Sunday to host a practice session.

Fuchs, a defender for Leicester City in the English Premier League, is the owner of Hudson Sports Complex here and the founder of Fox Soccer Academy.

“I was off for a few days with Leicester, so I came to New York to see my family and to visit Hudson Sports Complex,” Fuchs said. “It was nice to meet so many of the parents and to spend time with the kids. My wife and I see this as a family business and it’s very important for us to be an active part of the community.”

Fuchs’ visit was unannounced, so Academy participants were shocked to see him on the field and managing the practice.

“It was a real pleasure for my son, Leonardo, to be able to meet and train with Christian,” said Frédéric Blic of Warwick. “He was thrilled to train with a Premier League player and was telling everyone about it all day. He left super proud of himself because he was able to score on a pro player.”

Fox Soccer Academy is an elite youth development program that offers motivated young athletes a unique opportunity to learn directly from professional coaches and players using world class training techniques.

The Fuchs family also stuck around after practice to play foosball with some of the kids.

“Some of those kids were good. I was taking it easy until they started knocking balls past me,” Fuchs said with a laugh. “I’ll be back here soon to get my revenge.”

The next tryout for the Warwick supplemental training program with Fox Soccer Academy for boys and girls ages 8 to 16 will be held at Hudson Sports Complex Wednesday, March 13 at 6 p.m.
