Major League Soccer announced Thursday that commissioner Don Garber’s contract has been extended through the 2023 season.

The MLS board of governors recently approved the new five-year agreement.

This year will mark Garber’s 20th anniversary since replacing Doug Logan as commissioner in 1999.

Since he became commissioner in 1999, MLS has expanded from 12 to 27 clubs, added 25 new owners and developed 19 soccer stadiums in the United States and Canada.

Financial terms were not disclosed.
